Palm Springs, Part 2

Our second trip to PS was just before my birthday! So hard to believe that this is the second birthday I’ve had since the pandemic started, and certainly many things have changed in all of our lives. I often think of my birthday as sort of a “New Years”, with a fresh start, and a chance to push myself to grow. I certainly have no regulated structure to what my current circumstances are, but I’m working on that. Change can be a good thing!

Early morning walks!

Each morning of our trip, my friend Kristen and I would get up and take a walk around the neighborhood. There are so many different cute areas in PS, and it was a fun way to start the day off with a little bit of exercise and a chance to soak in our surroundings! There is so much to see— fabulous gardens, towering cacti, breeze blocks, midcentury architecture, and of course, the colorful doors! The streets can be reminiscent of little movie sets, everything just-so and each one is more charming than the next.

This shirt is not a new make, but I wanted to show you all on here! It was a piece of textile that has been passed around my family, and though it was very loved and quite stained, I was able to eek out a bucket hat and matching shirt. It is incredibly soft from being laundered an infinite number of times over the years, and it feels like that favorite shirt in your closet that is broken in just right.

Cactus garden

There are so many colors and textures of cacti all over Palm Springs- it is the desert of course! I find them endlessly inspiring.

Chris and I hamming it up at the Parker, where we had a fabulous breakfast at Norma’s. The shirt Chris is wearing I made from some midcentury Hawaiian-inspired cotton, which is pretty lightweight. Almost a voile maybe? Perfect for the 100 degree temps, thats for sure!

The caftan is one you’ve seen before on my IG, made for my 33rd birthday out of a Jonathan Adler textile. I’ll have to do a whole post about my love of caftans— and those in my collection! Fun fact: I actually have a shirt and pant set out of this same textile as well, and my dear friend Rachel has a matching caftan too! When I can get enough fabric to make something truly inspiring, I like to challenge myself and squeeze out as many projects as I can to not create additional waste.
